YOSHIRO UCHIDA
Yoshiro Uchida, born December 14, 1953, began his career as a child actor, most notably starring as Toshio Sakurai in Gamera the Giant Monster (1965), released in the U.S. as Gammera the Invincible (1966). In this first film of Daiei’s iconic Gamera series, he played a young boy who befriends the giant turtle kaiju. He also appeared in episode 39 of Tsuburaya Productions’ Kaiju Booska (1966-67) as one of Mecha Taro’s followers. His early film roles included Toho’s Pomegranate Time (1967), Daiei’s The House of Wooden Blocks (1968), Toho’s Portrait of Hell (1969), Shochiku’s Stray Dog (1973), and the tokusatsu feature Moonlight Mask (1981).
In the 1970s, he continued acting and entered the music world as a pop and enka singer releasing two hit albums. In the 90s he became a Chanson singer. To this day he has regularly performed and is well cherished by fans and industry colleagues a like.
After a break from acting, he returned with roles in the independent kaiju films The Great Buddha Arrival (2019) and Nezura 1964 (2020), reconnecting with his kaiju legacy.
